Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976

This Act is applicable to urban areas with a population of more that 3 lakh. (Bengaluru)

Section 295 empowers the Corporation to regulate and restrict the use of sites for constructing buildings.

Section 303 specifies the ground when approval can be refused. Sub-section (1)(a) states that the can be refused if it violates or contravenes any provisions of law and bye-laws.

Section 304 places a restriction on power to grant permission to construct places of entertainment in certain cases which include residential areas. This can be done only by the previous approval of the government.

Section 310 states that failure to procure occupancy certificate from the concerned official can be penalized with Rs. 50 as provided in Schedule IX of the Act.
